Ticking Off the Toronto Bucket List: Week #5

Hey Everyone!

So, it's now the beginning of May! Can you believe it? I feel like it was just yesterday that I arrived back from Ireland in January. Where does the time go?!

Well, this week was a busy one, but that didn't stop me from ticking off some Toronto activities off my list!

Here's what I did!

Berkeley Street Theatre & Studio 180 Production of "Our Class"

26 Berkeley Street

I saw a play this week! It was a Studio 180 Production, which is actually named after a room located in Hagey Hall at the University of Waterloo. That is where I spent a lot of my University days while studying Drama at UofW. Anyway, Studio 180 is a theatre company started by one of the professors at Waterloo and is based out of Toronto. They have done some productions over the years, but I had yet to see one. Last month they put on a production of "Our Class" a play by Polish playwright Tadeusz Slobodzianek. Google the play if you'd like to know more because it'll be a bit too much if I start getting into it! It was a bit controversial and the subject matter was pretty heavy. Not a very uplifting play!

I love the Berkeley Street Theatre! This play was held in the downstairs theatre which I had never been in, but it still had the lovely exposed brick that I adore at the Berkeley.

C'est What

67 Front Street E

Before our evening at the Berkeley, we first stop by C'est What for some dinner. I heard that C'est What was serving the new Kensington Brewing Company's beer 'Augusta Ale' which is on my list of things to do/drink!. C'est What is a great spot with many different sections and interesting things to see. I tried out the Lamburger since lamb is something I've only ever had in Ireland, and I wanted to try it here in burger form! It was tasty and went well with my half-pint of Augusta Ale. The beer was nice, but nothing that screamed "wow, that's something I need to try again and again". I still recommend you try it out though! They are a brand new brewery, so it's worth a try! My friend and I shared a nice warm brownie as well. It was a good night :)

Ella's Uncle

916 Dundas Street West

What an adorable little place! I stumbled upon Ella's Uncle while looking for The Communal Mule. I took a wrong turn, and instead went in the direction of another coffee shop on my list! Ella's Uncle is a "order and go" place, but it has a bit of seating by a window and a wall. Not only was their latte tasty, but I loved that they baked their own sweets and treats. They have a little kitchen behind the counter, and you could see one of the girls working away on some lovely baked goods. I love that they make things as they go. The blueberry scone I had wasn't that sweet, but that's what I liked about it. Less sugar the better! The baritas seemed to know many of the people walking in and everyone seemed really friendly and talkative. This is always a good sign. It's simple, cute, hip, and smells great when they are baking. Perfect :) I highly recommend Ella's Uncle whenever you're on Dundas in the Little Italy area :)

So that's that! End of Week 5!

Only 16 weeks to go!
(Yup, had to change it, leaving a bit earlier now!)

Keep Smilin'

Monica
