Long-Distance Indie Coffee Date #6. [The Mascot]

Indie Coffee Shop #6: The Mascot

Neighbourhood: Parkdale
Drink Ordered: Cafe Mocha (obviously)

Size: Lots of space... but when I say space, I mean open space. Seating is VERY VERY limited!! I was automatically put off by this place because of it's seating situation. I'm very much into sitting in a coffee shop for a long time, and you can't do that here. If you do, then you start feeling guilty when new customers come in looking for a place to sit. At first I was told to just sit in this old school cinema seat (which is cool), but the seat had no table for anything. I had to rest my drink on the floor. I wasn't very impressed. I come to coffee shops so I can write in my journal, and I just couldn't do that here. Enough said.

Menu: Just your basic coffee standards. Nice looking espresso machine though! However, I was disappointed with my drink. He made me all excited when I heard "we make our own mixture". I was expecting the awesomeness I experienced at Manic Coffee, alas, it was a no go.

Atmosphere: Was there one? Not really. I mean, maybe if you sat at the barish type thing near the espresso machine... but other than that I felt really detached from the environment around me. The open space I sat in really made me really uncomfortable. Maybe that's just me. Perhaps you'd like that type of thing?

Overall, I would not come back here again. I don't think I'd even visit it again if I were in the neighbourhood. I feel terrible for saying that, but it's true. I didn't' have that great of an experience there.  It's hard for me to say negative things about an indie coffee joint, but I can't help it! There are cool things to see in there, but other than that, no thanks!

Date Potential: 3/10 This place is more appropriate for those who just like to stop by and get a drink, but not sit down. Maybe if you're just walking by with your date and feel like a quick caffeine fix, then sure, stop in! Just don't expect to sit down!

Great For: Those who can find a place to sit.

The Mascot gets 1/5 smiles from me!
